How did you get started?

I was the Crime Analyst for the Texarkana Texas Police Department for years, but always truly wanted to be a makeup artist. Most of my family is in Law Enforcement and I initially just followed in their footsteps. I truly loved my career at TTPD, but knew deep down it wasn’t my calling.

I received the opportunity to begin doing Spray Tans and makeup on the side at Studio Ell.B.(Huge career change, right?!) Things took off way quicker than I thought they would. I ended up being busy enough to quit my Government job to do this full time! I went back to school and received my Esthetician license. It was very scary in the beginning, I won’t lie. A lot wondered why I would quit a government job with benefits to do freelance work, and I even wondered the same myself in the beginning. Now I am SO incredibly glad I made that decision. I have never had a more fulfilling career, and truly love going to work everyday!

What do you want brides to know about you?

I truly put my all into every wedding/event I work! There are so many things that happen behind the scenes in preparation for a wedding day. I want every Bride’s experience to be great, and I try my best to make it a fun and relaxing day for them. There are so many incredible artists to choose from, and I am so thankful when they choose me!

What is one piece of advice to give to the brides?

Have fun on your wedding day!! I see so many brides overly stress about small things that truly don’t matter. This is your day! Have fun with your Bridesmaids! Listen to your favorite music while you are getting ready. Have a mimosa or two. Enjoy this time you have with your loved ones! This is one of the few times in your life that you will have all of your favorite people in one place together. Don’t let it pass you by because that center piece isn’t placed perfectly. Take time out of your busy day to just sit and take it all in! You’ll be glad you did.

What is a mistake you’ve seen brides make?

Time management! Typically on a wedding day, there are a lot of things happening between hair and makeup, photography, videography etc. You don’t want to show up late or mismanage your time and get behind. It is harder to enjoy your day when this happens, because everyone will feel rushed! You want to give yourself plenty of time to get ready and truly enjoy your wedding day. No one wants to feel panicked and rushed because of a crunched timeline!

What is your favorite bridal makeup look?

I love a natural glowy soft-glam look! I want my brides to still look like themselves when they walk down the aisle.

What is your favorite part about your job?

I love getting to meet new people, and make them feel beautiful! It is so rewarding. 🥹 I love to see the confidence build up in my clients after I’ve completed their makeup look. I’ve had a few tear up and tell me they hadn’t felt that beautiful in a long time. It’s an incredible feeling! I also work full-time during the week at Annie Rateliff Skincare offering full-body waxing, Lash lift & tints, and facials! I enjoy it so much. I’ve met so many amazing new people with this career, some that I call my closest friends today!
