Romantic Garden Party
A garden party-themed wedding is a whimsical and romantic celebration inspired by the beauty of nature and the charm of an outdoor garden. This theme often features lush greenery, blooming florals, and soft, pastel color palettes. Décor may include string lights, lanterns, or candles for a magical glow, along with vintage furniture, bistro tables, and delicate tableware. The overall vibe is elegant yet relaxed, perfect for couples who want a timeless and enchanting wedding experience.
Ivory Boho
A clean ivory-inspired boho wedding is a harmonious blend of simplicity, elegance, and free-spirited charm. This theme features a neutral ivory color palette accented by soft, natural tones like beige, taupe, and hints of earthy greens. Décor often includes flowing fabrics, macramé details, pampas grass, dried florals, and wooden accents, creating a serene and effortlessly stylish ambiance. The ceremony space might include an arch draped in soft ivory linens, while the reception tables are adorned with minimalist tableware, ivory candles, and textured linens. The atmosphere is relaxed yet refined, perfect for couples who want a chic, bohemian vibe that feels both intimate and timeless.
Italian Summer
An Italian summer wedding theme is a luxurious yet breezy celebration inspired by the charm of the Mediterranean coast and the elegance of Italian culture. The hallmark of this theme is the iconic blue and white color palette, often showcased through intricate floral vases or ceramic patterns reminiscent of Italian pottery. These vases, filled with fresh greenery, lemons, and white blooms, serve as stunning centerpieces that exude sophistication. Décor includes long family-style tables, adorned with crisp white linens, gold accents, and lush floral garlands, creating a sense of effortless elegance. This theme evokes the romance of an Italian summer, perfect for couples seeking a timeless, sun-drenched celebration with a touch of European charm.
Rustic
A rustic wedding with terracotta and fall colors is a warm and inviting celebration that beautifully embraces the charm of the countryside and the richness of autumn. This theme features a palette of earthy terracotta tones, complemented by deep burgundy, burnt orange, golden yellow, and touches of sage green. Décor often includes natural wood accents, burlap, and vintage-style elements like lanterns, barrels, and mason jars. Centerpieces might feature dried grasses, seasonal blooms, and terracotta pots filled with flowers or candles. This theme exudes a sense of rustic elegance, perfect for couples who want a celebration that feels both romantic and grounded in the beauty of the fall season.
Upscale, Chic Garden Party
An upscale chic garden party style combines elegance, sophistication, and natural beauty, creating a refined yet relaxed outdoor setting. The color palette features soft, airy tones like whites, creams, blush, and sage green, accented by deep emerald, muted jewel tones, or touches of gold. Décor focuses on curated details, with tablescapes draped in neutral linens, gold or brass flatware, crystal glassware, and delicate floral centerpieces overflowing with seasonal blooms like garden roses and peonies. The overall mood is refined yet relaxed, inviting guests to enjoy the outdoors in a beautiful, timeless setting. The attention to detail in décor, attire, and hospitality creates a luxury feel without being overly formal.
Modern Minimalistic
A modern minimalistic wedding with a black-and-white color palette and bow accents exudes sophistication, elegance, and understated luxury. The décor is sleek and refined, featuring crisp white linens, black taper candles, and minimalist table settings with polished black flatware, white ceramic plates, and clear glassware. Statement floral arrangements in all-white blooms, such as orchids, roses, or calla lilies, are paired with lush greenery, displayed in modern black or clear vessels for a clean, architectural look. Bows serve as a subtle yet impactful detail, adorning everything from chairs with oversized black or white bows to napkins tied with delicate satin ribbons. The overall ambiance is chic and polished, with soft, ambient lighting, including black lanterns, white candles, or uplighting that enhances the modern aesthetic. This wedding style is a perfect balance of simplicity and sophistication, where every detail feels intentional, timeless, and effortlessly refined.

2025 Wedding Trends
As 2025 approaches, the wedding industry is abuzz with excitement over emerging trends that promise to elevate the big day. Couples are leaning into bold personalization, from immersive decor themes to unique entertainment like 360 photo booths and mechanical bulls. Sustainability will take center stage, with eco-conscious choices such as dried bouquet keepsakes and repurposed decor. It's a year of individuality, creativity, and unforgettable celebrations!
Here are the 5 new trends we are excited to see for the 2025 wedding year!
Bows, Bows and More Bows
Bows are here to stay as a versatile and romantic detail in weddings, offering brides endless ways to incorporate them throughout their special day. Many brides are opting for statement bows on their gowns, whether it's a dramatic oversized bow on the back of their dress or a delicate accent at the waist. For hairstyles, bows crafted from soft tulle or satin add a whimsical touch to updos or loose waves. Bridesmaids’ dresses and accessories often feature coordinating bow details for a cohesive look. Even decor elements, like chair sashes or napkin ties, are embracing the bow trend. Smaller bows are being used in personal touches like bridal shoes, clutch embellishments, or even embroidered into veils, making them a charming, timeless addition to the wedding aesthetic.
Bold Wedding Colors and Floral Prints
Brides are embracing bold color palettes and florals to make a striking statement on their wedding day, moving away from traditional pastels and neutrals. Vibrant hues like deep fuchsia, emerald green, mustard yellow, and cobalt blue are taking center stage, often paired with rich textures and metallic accents for a luxurious feel. Florals are playing a key role in this trend, with lush, oversized arrangements featuring exotic blooms, unique greenery, and unexpected elements like fruits or dried foliage. Bouquets are becoming works of art, with asymmetrical designs and daring color combinations. Brides are also incorporating bold florals into ceremony arches, table runners, hanging installations, and even attire, such as floral appliqué on gowns or bold floral accessories. This trend creates a visually impactful celebration full of personality and modern elegance.
Fruit Details
Fruit details are becoming a fresh and vibrant addition to wedding table decor, adding a natural pop of color and texture that pairs beautifully with floral arrangements. Brides are incorporating whole fruits like oranges, lemons, pomegranates, and figs as part of centerpiece designs, nestling them among greenery and flowers for a lush, garden-inspired aesthetic. Sliced fruits are also being used creatively, often displayed on charcuterie boards or layered into clear vessels to add a modern, artistic element. Some couples are even using personalized fruit—like calligraphed pears or oranges—as unique place cards or table numbers. Whether as accents in decorative bowls or integrated into the overall tablescape, fruit brings a fresh, unexpected charm that feels both stylish and inviting.
Cake Centerpieces
Using cakes as centerpieces at weddings is a growing trend that combines decor with dessert in an elegant and practical way. Miniature cakes or single-tier designs are placed on each guest table, often decorated to match the wedding’s theme with intricate details like floral accents, textured frosting, or bold colors. These centerpiece cakes can double as both a visual focal point and a part of the dining experience, allowing guests to enjoy their own table’s cake. This approach not only elevates the decor but also adds a touch of personalization, as each table can feature unique designs or flavors. Cake centerpieces are a creative, interactive alternative to traditional wedding cakes, offering both beauty and a sweet treat for the celebration.
Wedding Scentscaping
Wedding scentscaping is the art of curating specific fragrances to enhance the ambiance and emotional experience of a wedding. Just as decor, music, and lighting set the mood, scentscaping uses thoughtfully chosen aromas to create a sensory connection with the event. Brides and grooms might choose signature scents—such as floral, citrus, or woody notes—that complement their theme, whether it’s a romantic garden wedding or a rustic celebration. These fragrances can be incorporated through candles, diffusers, or fresh flowers placed strategically throughout the venue, such as in the ceremony space, reception tables, and restrooms. Some couples even opt for personalized perfumes or scented favors, allowing guests to take home a fragrant memory of the day. Scentscaping adds a unique, immersive touch to weddings, making the atmosphere unforgettable.
Bonus Trend - Sustainability
Couples are increasingly prioritizing sustainability in their weddings, finding creative ways to celebrate while minimizing environmental impact. Eco-friendly practices include choosing venues with natural settings to reduce the need for elaborate decor and opting for digital invitations to cut down on paper waste. Many couples are working with caterers who source local, organic, and seasonal ingredients. For florals, brides are leaning toward potted plants, dried arrangements, or flowers sourced from local farms, which can be repurposed after the event. Other touches include compostable dinnerware, reusable decor elements, and wedding favors like seed packets or plants.
Shameless plug.. Here at Four Fifteen we donate leftover food to the local kitchen and bring flowers to the local retirement home.

Vendor Spotlight - Bella Roo Events
How did you get started?
I began offering wedding coordination services at our family venue as a fun side job, but I quickly realized that I absolutely loved doing it! So, I started offering it as a business and venturing out to other venues as well. I purchased an inventory of decor approximately a year later and added styling to my list of services, as well. It is a lot more work than people realize, but it is the best kind of tired!
What all services do you offer?
I offer full-service planning, event coordination, and decor and styling packages.
What do you want brides to know about Bella Roo Events?
I genuinely strive to be a blessing and to make their wedding weekend as stress-free as possible.
What is one tip for the bride?
This day is about you and your husband becoming one. The rest is just for fun! Focus on the marriage, not just the “event”.
What is your favorite wedding decor look?
I love an elegant southern style with some vintage details. I’m also a huge fan of the boho trend right now.
Do you have any memorable moments from a wedding? Something the bride and groom did that was special? Anything unique that stood out.
*I have a few! One of my brides had a “flower dude” instead of a traditional flower girl. He wore a fanny pack, tossing flowers and putting on quite the show.
*I’ve had some couples do some really fun dances that were a surprise to the crowd, and I’ve had some family members surprise the couple with a song or touching speech.
*One couple made floral centerpieces using instruments, and it turned out really cool.
*Basically, I love when a couple adds personalized touches to showcase their style and personalities!
What trends are you excited to see this year?
I’m looking forward to seeing more bold colors come into play. Neutrals have been on trend for several years, but I think things are shifting to the use of color and texture more.
What is your favorite part about your job?
I absolutely LOVE getting to be there for a couple/family for such a momentous occasion. I love watching everyone relax and be present, to truly enjoy every minute!

How did you get started?
The start of our services first began when we had the opportunity to cater our recipes at the daughter of our owners wedding. What all services do you offer?
After years of accumulation, growth, and dedication, we now offer a multitude of services. Most frequently we offer catering, cakes for all occasions and we have the honor of hosting many types of life events for our community in down town New Boston. We have also expanded our services to further accommodate events of many types with our Mobile Bar service. We are continuously finding ways to grow and better serve our community, which is why we are excited to announce that our Mobile bar has recently gotten a brand new look. We look forward to giving the community the “first look” of the brand new Copper Top in the near future.

Vendor Spotlight - J Cole Design
How did you get started?
I spent several years decorating homes for Christmas as “The Christmas Fairy”, then a good friend of mine asked me to decorate her daughter’s wedding. I immediately told her NO and said… “I decorate homes, I have no idea how to decorate a wedding!” She persuaded me to do it anyway (obviously having more faith in me than I had) Lol! A few days after that wedding a friend of theirs contacted me and asked me to decorate her daughter’s wedding and ……. Well I loved every minute of it and decided to pursue a new venture and realized I found my true passion!
What do you want brides to know about you and J Cole Design?
Our services are unique to this area. It’s very unusual to find a designer/decorator that will create the design, provide all decor, set it all up then take it all down. We literally do it all for you!
What is one tip for the bride?
Be sure to research your wedding vendors before hiring them. Look at their work, ask lots of questions to make sure they are a good fit for YOU, and read reviews from other brides who can tell you about their experience.
What is your favorite wedding decor look?
My personal favorite wedding style is a classic, elegant look with minimal color. I love solid white flowers and greenery with crisp white linens and lots of candlesticks!
What trends are you excited to see this year?
If you are planning a wedding in the next couple of years you will want to keep up with the latest trends. My FAVORITE new trend is layering place settings! Think charger topped with dinner plate, salad plate, desert plate and cloth napkin. This is a simple way to glam up your guest tables and add a luxurious design. Also the reef style chargers in gold and silver are THE hottest going look right now.
What is your favorite part about your job?
The best part of my job is hearing my brides say “thank you for taking so much stress off of my wedding day”! That is my number one goal and I take it very seriously. We are here to make our bride’s wedding day absolutely beautiful while she relaxes with her bridal party. She should be sipping mimosas with her friends and enjoy having her hair and makeup done without having to worry about decor.

How did you get started?
I was the Crime Analyst for the Texarkana Texas Police Department for years, but always truly wanted to be a makeup artist. Most of my family is in Law Enforcement and I initially just followed in their footsteps. I truly loved my career at TTPD, but knew deep down it wasn’t my calling.
I received the opportunity to begin doing Spray Tans and makeup on the side at Studio Ell.B.(Huge career change, right?!) Things took off way quicker than I thought they would. I ended up being busy enough to quit my Government job to do this full time! I went back to school and received my Esthetician license. It was very scary in the beginning, I won’t lie. A lot wondered why I would quit a government job with benefits to do freelance work, and I even wondered the same myself in the beginning. Now I am SO incredibly glad I made that decision. I have never had a more fulfilling career, and truly love going to work everyday!
What do you want brides to know about you?
I truly put my all into every wedding/event I work! There are so many things that happen behind the scenes in preparation for a wedding day. I want every Bride’s experience to be great, and I try my best to make it a fun and relaxing day for them. There are so many incredible artists to choose from, and I am so thankful when they choose me!
What is one piece of advice to give to the brides?
Have fun on your wedding day!! I see so many brides overly stress about small things that truly don’t matter. This is your day! Have fun with your Bridesmaids! Listen to your favorite music while you are getting ready. Have a mimosa or two. Enjoy this time you have with your loved ones! This is one of the few times in your life that you will have all of your favorite people in one place together. Don’t let it pass you by because that center piece isn’t placed perfectly. Take time out of your busy day to just sit and take it all in! You’ll be glad you did.
What is a mistake you’ve seen brides make?
Time management! Typically on a wedding day, there are a lot of things happening between hair and makeup, photography, videography etc. You don’t want to show up late or mismanage your time and get behind. It is harder to enjoy your day when this happens, because everyone will feel rushed! You want to give yourself plenty of time to get ready and truly enjoy your wedding day. No one wants to feel panicked and rushed because of a crunched timeline!
What is your favorite bridal makeup look?
I love a natural glowy soft-glam look! I want my brides to still look like themselves when they walk down the aisle.
What is your favorite part about your job?
I love getting to meet new people, and make them feel beautiful! It is so rewarding. 🥹 I love to see the confidence build up in my clients after I’ve completed their makeup look. I’ve had a few tear up and tell me they hadn’t felt that beautiful in a long time. It’s an incredible feeling! I also work full-time during the week at Annie Rateliff Skincare offering full-body waxing, Lash lift & tints, and facials! I enjoy it so much. I’ve met so many amazing new people with this career, some that I call my closest friends today!
Vendor Spotlight - Captured by Kelsi
How did you get started?
I first started photography when I was in high school right here in Texarkana at Texas High! I was lucky enough to attend a school with a photography program that actually taught the ins and outs of a camera, so within weeks of picking up a camera for the first time I understood what I was doing and was ready to grow. I didn’t know where it would take me, but I knew pretty early on that I would build a career out of photography. I got started with weddings by chance really, several years ago I had a client that had hired me for several shoots and knew I was the person for the job on her wedding day before I even trusted myself for that job. I went with it and now here we are! I never imagined I would have grown to build a business serving this many couples but I am so glad I did!
Describe your style:
This is tricky, because I feel that my style does change a bit time to time (I know some might cringe at that, but any artist evolves their style as they go). Through the years, the thing that has remained constant through my work is the warmth, depth, and contrasted look of my photos packaged with my documentary approach and emotional capturing of moments. I always strive to freeze moments instead of simply posing people. I also feel strongly that I want my couples to feel comfortable around me and like they can show up as themselves in front of my camera. This all plays a part in my “style” - it’s more than just the editing that I do or the lenses that I use, I like to think that it’s part of me and who I am that helps me make the art that I do out of who you are!
What is your best wedding day tip for the couple?
Work it into your plans for the day to clean up your getting ready space BEFORE your photo/video team arrives. We want to capture things how they are naturally happening, but don’t want there to be a ton of trash, clutter, clothes, etc laying around in photos. By the end of several hours of “hang out” time on the morning of your wedding day- every surface will likely be packed to the brim with clutter. This may not be a big deal to some, and that’s totally fine if you don’t mind it. I always look back and think a tidier space looks nicer in the photos of the wedding party getting ready, though! So, my advice is to designate a few of your people to make a sweep of the room before the set arrival time. There will *not* be enough time worked into our photo timeline to do this after we arrive, so if it isn’t done before, it’ll be too late! Doesn’t have to be perfect - just do a sweep for trash, bags, clothes, and put everything that isn’t needed away! You’ll thank me later!
What are some mistakes you’ve seen couples make?
Not researching the sunset time before setting your ceremony time! Get with your photographer before you make this decision, they will be glad to help you! They will know the best time for your ceremony taking into account your plans, sunset time, venue, etc! They are professionals and their whole job is to know how lighting works. You don’t want the only photos you and your partner get from your whole wedding day to be after dark unless that is the style you are going for! They should still be able to work around that if they have to, but let’s try to set it up so they don’t have to! I have had several couples not check with me and send out invites for a ceremony that’s 30 minutes before sunset, which will certainly lead to beautiful ceremony photos, but keep in mind that you may need time after your ceremony for family photos, couple photos, wedding party photos, buffer time for a ceremony delay, and maybe, most importantly, a breather for you to soak it all in and enjoy yourself before the daylight is gone!
What makes a wedding day fun for you?
My favorite wedding days are days where I get to work with my industry friends! Through years of working in this area I have built a group of incredible friends both personally and professionally that I recommend to all of my couples. I can say without a doubt that whenever my couples hire more people off of this collective list, as a team, we work smoothly and efficiently! There is nothing like the well oiled machine that is a group of wedding vendors that already know how to work with one another. I can’t tell you how many problems I have solved that have nothing to do with photography before the problem ever even left the group of 3-4 vendors on a wedding day because of our ability to problem solve, work together, and trust each other! Not to mention, All the vendors that I recommend, I know give a good experience to their clients and work well creatively through the whole day process in partnership with me and anyone on my crew!
What are some trends you’re excited to see for 2023 weddings?
There are always a lot of fun ideas popping up on Tiktok and Instagram reels - the ideas and trends are endless! I spend a lot of my time consuming these and it’s so fun. The main thing that I am just so excited that is becoming more “mainstream” is that couples are doing what THEY want. You will see me encouraging all of my couples for 2023 (& forever) to partake in whatever traditions, trends, quirky ideas, and downright sweet moments they want for their wedding day. Let’s let go of what everyone else is doing on their wedding day and celebrate you and your partner committing to each other in the best way for you guys. Give into all your hopes and dreams if that’s what YOU’VE been dreaming of, but if it’s someone else’s dream, this is your sign to let it go!
What is your favorite part about your job?
Every single day I think about how I am preserving life long memories. That is hands down the best part of my job. In 20, 30, even 50 years, your kids, grandkids, or even great-grandkids are going to be looking at the photos I took for you on your wedding day. I can’t even describe the weight, importance, and joy that brings to my life! And I love that these days we are wanting to capture the raw, true emotional moments of the day instead of just a few posed moments. I wish I had photos of my loved ones like the photos I am able to provide for my couples and their families.

5 Things Brides Regret Not Doing At Their Wedding
Photo List for the Photographer
When thinking about your wedding day, you have a lot of expectations. I mean, you’ve been dreaming about this special day for a while now. During the rush and nervousness on the wedding day, it will be easy to forget everything you had in mind. Do you want more photos with your family, specific camera angles, or special moments during the day? Discuss with your photographer beforehand on your “must-have” photos.
Reception Dress
I know, I know… You spent a lot of money on your wedding dress. You want to wear it the whole dang night (and your parents want you to as well). But, I have had so many brides who regret not changing into something more comfortable so that they can sit down at dinner or drop it low on the dance floor. Your dress will get dirty after the ceremony when you are taking pictures, eating, dancing, drinking, and mingling. It can be a short cocktail dress, flowy chiffon dress, or even a cute white jumpsuit. Whatever fits your vibe and whatever is most comfortable!
Comfortable Shoes for the Reception
Which leads me to a change of shoes. Your wedding heels are beautiful and they will be captured in the detail shots. But, nobody will be looking at your shoes during the reception. Elegant ballet flats or even white converse are just perfect after the ceremony. Your feet will thank you.
Having a Day of Coordinator
Trust me! You do not want to be getting your hair done on your big day and someone rushes in to ask where the cake goes. This is your day and you have worked hard to make it the best day of your life. Hiring someone to make sure the day goes smoothly is worth it.
A Quality Moment
Last, but not least, take a break for the two of you, go somewhere quiet where you can savor the moment. I have had couples who have a private dinner and other couples who do a private dance out at the legacy altar. It is so sweet to see them talking about the day and enjoying being married.
Trends We Are Excited for in 2023
Ring Warming Ceremony
It is believed that precious metals hold energy. The more enduring the object, the more the energy will be absorbed. A Ring Warming Ceremony is when the wedding rings are passed around during the wedding ceremony for each bridesmaid/groomsmen/family member to add their positive thoughts and/or prayers to the rings before the ring exchange. The couple then takes the positive energy with them going forward in their marriage.
Group Photo during the Reception
Taking a moment for everyone at the reception to come to the dance floor for one big group photo. I’ve seen where couples will take a photo at each table during the reception, but taking one big photo saves so much time and you get everyone in one shot!
COLOR
The terracotta, beige, and neutrals are slowly coming to an end. Personally, I am a neutrals gal with black, beige, and white taking over my closet. But, bright colorful weddings are coming back. With florals, bridesmaid dresses, cake aesthetics etc. Color is about to be the next big trend.
Candid / Blurred Wedding Photography
Instead of the traditional posed shots, more candid in the moment photos are going to be popular.
Legacy Alter - Part 2 of 2
There is a man who is behind the scenes running around building altars, arbors, and fixing all the things. You don’t see him much unless he is your bartender, but he does more in the background that keeps the place running. His name is Caleb Stephens.
Caleb has been the one who has made the venue come to life.
We couldn’t talk about my grandparents, without giving the story of his grandparents as well. Because without them, he would not be the man he is today.
Caleb’s take on Legacy
To say I am the man I am today based only on four people’s influence and guidance would not be entirely true, but these four people have definitely been impactful on my life and the legacies that they have left for me to carry on are incredibly important to me. The lessons I have learned starting at an early age have stuck with me my entire life.
Legacy to me is a Pa who would literally give the shirt off of his back to someone in need, regardless of how big and pale his belly was. It is walking into a restaurant, shaking a veterans hand, and buying their meal all the while going home hungry because it was the only $20 in his pocket. Legacy is offering jobs to people in need without knowing anything about them just to have tools stolen from him and responding with, “If they needed them that bad, then they needed them more than me.” Later, going to the pawnshop to find them just to re buy them. Legacy is constantly putting others needs in front of yourself.
Hard working and selfless.
Legacy is a Nenaw who has the quietest voice in the room, but the most impactful words. It is the ability to get your point across and show that you genuinely care without any negativity. Legacy is the ability to stand beside your husband and trust in him to provide, regardless of how much stress it may put on her. It is the voice of reason that pulls family together. It is the patience to find peace in some of life’s biggest struggles.
Patient and Kind.
Legacy is a Papaw who is constantly making time for other people and making a point to show others that you truly care about them by remembering its their birthday and calling and singing them happy birthday every year. Legacy is always putting God first in everything. It is being dedicated to the church and all of the unnoticed work that goes into the many groups and committees that he has selflessly served on. Legacy is hard work and dedication to a business and a community for over 50 years. It is waking up early, drinking 6 cups of coffee before 10am, and taking care of all the needs of the business, the employees, and the community all the while raising a family to have the same values that you possess. It is tinkering on projects in hopes to make things better than they were before without asking for any help.
Humble and Giving.
Legacy is a grandmother who, by the talk of the town, was one of the sweetest, most kindhearted women in the community. It is hearing stories of how nice, patient, and kind she was and how sad it was when she passed. It is never meeting her, but knowing how much of a blessing she was for the community and family. Legacy is a Memaw who would always have an assortment of zebra gum, soft peppermints, and pens to doodle with at church to keep you occupied. It is always meeting you with a smile, a hug, and a kiss on the cheek. Legacy is family and the importance of lunch after church where her famous lasagna drew everyone together.
Family and Community.
Some of the most important legacies left by some of the most important people push me to strive to be a hard working, selfless, patient, kind, humble man with a giving heart centered around God, family, and community.
The Legacy Alter - Part 1 of 2
It has taken me a long time to find the right name for the outdoor ceremony option. Are we surprised? 415 was named “The Venue land” up until a week before announcing that we were breaking ground.
I want everything to have a meaning behind it and this is no different.
I have many people and experiences who have made me who I am today. Caleb of course (hence the 415), Gracyn Elizabeth and the memories of witnessing mom go through the pain of birthing a stillborn, and the people in my family who have raised me.
Most importantly, my grandparents.
Politics, community spotlight, and cancer are only a few challenges they've had to face. My Poppa and Granddaddy have both positively affected the community in which they served for decades. They have created a legacy for future generations of our family and the community! Their biggest supporters and the person by their side through it all were their wives, my Granny and Grandmommy.
Ahh… legacy. It sounds so weighty, monumental, bigger than life!
But what is a legacy?
We tend to overplay the notion of legacy in our culture. We often think of it as a status thing, like our name on a building or a street named after us. Lucky for me, I have people in my life that have achieved just that. But they have done so much more the public eye will never see.
Legacy is all around us, every single day. Legacy is the mark we are making right this very moment. It’s our story no matter how big or small we think it is. It’s not about conquering the world or building a mass of wealth. Legacy, plain and simple, is what you leave behind.
Legacy is a poppa staying up late patiently teaching his granddaughter algebra after spending hours earlier in the day teaching her how to drive. “I never liked that crepe myrtle anyway”
It’s a Granny taking your measurements so she can sew you a new outfit for school that “nobody else will have”. Or being your senior year college roommate because you failed biochemistry again and have to go back another semester with no place to live.
Legacy is a Grandaddy who shakes his head when you pick out all the trinkets at Walmart for him to buy before you stay the night. His story telling of when he had a cucumber garden, the hard work it required, and the best ways to know when the cucumber is ready.
It’s a Grandmommy who takes the time to check on you weekly, send you a Friday surprise, and model what genuine kindness is. It’s teaching you the proper way to cut a lemon peel into a rose for an ice ring while drinking wine with you and laughing over clam chowder.
When they stood at the alter on their wedding day, they made the commitment and sacrifice to put the other first and to love one another the way Jesus loves us. And I believe that is why they were and are so successful - at marriage, their careers, and life. It was because of their faith and faithfulness to one another that created a legacy and the name for the outdoor ceremony - The Legacy Alter.
Symbolism in Gracyn’s Chapel
“On October 24, I messaged my friends back home and said “I’ve got to share with you my most favorite part about weddings: Symbolism!” I proceeded to give them a short run down on my take of your absolutely stunning venue there in New Boston. I’m no expert in these things but I do have a fondness for the meaning behind shapes and numbers and images – I’m convinced you do too. Even if you couldn’t say why you were drawn to these numbers and shapes, you intrinsically seemed to know. Here is what I found your venue to say through geometry and numbers:
First we begin with the doors. Of course they open as TWO. You would not have a single door to the chapel. Why? Because One is whole, complete and forever alone. Two doors represent the duplicity of male and female but also their balance. After all, we stand on two feet, reach with two hands, see with two eyes and hear with two ears. Two is the first even number. It represents the partnership that is about to come together. Traditionally the number 2 is considered feminine which is perfect for the bride who elegantly walks through these two doors and down towards her perfect opposite who awaits her at the front of the chapel.
As she walks down the aisle, there above the bride lay THREE beams over her head. 3 is a rather magical number. We get a sense of completion with the number three. Our fairy tales grant three wishes and we even count down to three when giving a child a chance to escape trouble. The first odd number and often considered male, three stands for the Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Ghost. It represents Wisdom, Understanding and Knowledge, birth, life and death and even virgin, mother and crone. These three beams stand as a testament to the bride’s life as she walks down the aisle. With all her family and friends looking on, they stand as witness to her past, present and future. Such a simple act of walking down a path to the front of the congregation is emotional not just because this woman is so beautiful but because it is symbolic of the girl she was and the woman she is now, and will become.
After stepping up TWO steps (how poetic) the bride and groom have come together about to be made one inside the number SIX. The chapel is cut out into an uneven HEXAGON where the soon to be couple now stand on stage. This is where the symbolism really takes off! Six is the perfect number. God created the world in 6 days. The multiplication of the number 2 and 3, the even and the odd, creates the number six making it the universal number for love. 6 can be split into two 3s. Three as we have already described, is a very magical number. Three makes a triangle. Two triangles make six points which form the Star of David. The star represents the old saying “As above so below”. How wonderful a statement when joining two people together under heaven here on earth! Six is universally known to be the number of marriage, union and perfection. It represents structure and order the same way a honey bee who walks on six legs and makes hexagons out of wax represents symmetry. The hexagon forms the “Flower of Life” which represents the union of everything. In summary, you have the couple standing in the most ancient symbolic shape of love, union and marriage - how perfect can you get!?
Oh but then we look past that first hexagon and we see much more clearly a PENTAGON. The number FIVE stands for all things human. 2+3=5 or when 2 (feminine) marries 3 (male) they create 5. This makes the number five the universal number for reproduction and life. We as humans have five fingers, five toes and when spreading out our limbs, we make five points. Humans have 5 vital organs and 5 senses. 5 is the number for man, so what does it mean to have a pentagon inside of a hexagon for a wedding? To me, this represents the couple’s place on this earth. As humans we are embraced by love and perfection. It surrounds us as the hexagon does over the pentagon. Under the love of 6, man (3) and woman (2) come together and marry (5), producing life!
Which leads us to yet another hexagon, the final shape in the chapel. This hexagon is the most obvious and the most pronounced of shapes. You actually have this hexagon decorated and it stands center stage. Of all the shapes you could have chosen, why this shape? Why six? This is my favorite piece because for this hexagon to stand inside of the pentagon, it pronounces boldly that as 2 and 3 marry one another and become 5 they create within themselves 6, the number of love and perfection. When I look toward the stage I see the first hexagon representing God in his perfection and love encircling the man and woman who are represented by the pentagram. But the man and woman have within them an even bolder and pronounced love that is being shown through by the hexagon inside the pentagon. They have come together to make God’s love evident through their own love. All of that is being said through these shapes and numbers!
Now, as fantastic as it is to see this symbolism, it delighted me just as much to not be able to find other shapes or numbers. You didn’t use any shapes past the number 6. A very wise move. After all, 6 is the perfect number for a wedding. Also, 7 is the number for virginity which is definitely not a number you want at a wedding! We count to six and that’s as far as it goes for good reason. 1 is not seen here because as I noted before, it is the loneliest number. The only other number we are missing is FOUR. Where is it? Where is the SQUARE? 4 represents the earth, foundations, and the four elements (water, earth, air and fire). The cross is also made up by the number 4 giving it the added meaning of protection. These things are all very important but are not very “fun” when compared to the other numbers. Leaving it out may have seemed the obvious choice. Only, you didn’t leave 4 out. You recognized its importance. You left 4 out of the chapel and instead had a square waiting for everyone to receive it OUTSIDE. This was so beautiful. Foundation and protection can be found in our family and when outside of the chapel, a place of unity and magic and love, the bride and groom step out and are celebrated by four. Yes, family can be a bit boxed in, stuck in their ways and unexciting but family gives every person their footing. Family acts as a person’s security and shelter just like how a four walled building stands as our home. I stood right next to the metal square you had standing on the patio as me and the rest of the family stood cheering Allie and Micah on for a kiss. I could not have planned that more beautifully myself.
The symbolism, the numerology and the placement of each shape was done to perfection and it moved me to write you this letter. I hope this brings you joy as it did me. If anyone ever asks you why you chose two doors to the chapel rather than one, or why there is a hexagon on the chapel stage or why a metal square stands proudly on the patio, I hope you can smile gracefully at their unawareness and share with them just a glimpse of the magic you have beaming in your venue. “

Giving the Bride Away
In honor of Father’s Day, I did a little research and found the reason why it is tradition for the father to walk the bride down the aisle. It is a little sexist, but the tradition comes from the era when women were owned by men. It is the symbol of transferring the ownership of the bride from her father to her new husband.
Although this can leave a sour taste in your mouth, I believe it can also symbolize the confirmation that the bride’s family trusts the groom to provide, protect, and honor their daughter. A father-daughter relationship is a bond like no other. No one in this world can love a girl more than her father. So it actually quite poetic for the father (or father figure) to walk by his daughter’s side on her big day and to hand her over to her soon to be husband.
